Filtering Unsolicited Email

How to filter Spam to the Deleted Items folder in Outlook:

  1. Locate the email from the person that you want to filter out.
  2. Click on it once to highlight it.
  3. On the toolbar, click on the Organize button.
  4. The email address of the person who was selected in Step 1 will appear in the "Create a rule" portion of the window.
  5. In the "Create a rule to move new messages" drop-down menu, select from.
  6. Under "Create a rule," select Deleted Items from the lowest drop-down menu.
  7. Click on the Create button.
  8. Outlook may display a window asking if you would like to apply this rule to the current folder you are in. Click Yes.
  9. Click on the X in the upper right-hand corner to close the Organize window.
    This rule will now apply to all email from this subject.

Microsoft Outlook Express

Outlook Express can be configured to place email from certain people into specific folders. This feature is especially useful for filtering out unwanted email.

  1. From the Tools menu, select Message Rules and click on Blocked Senders List. The Message Rules window will appear.
  2. Click on the Add button. The Add Sender window will appear asking you to type in the email address of the sender who is sending the mail that you want to ignore.
  3. Type in the email address that you want to have blocked.
  4. Ensure that the circle next to Mail messages is checked and click OK. The Message Rules window will appear displaying the email address that you have blocked.
    Note: You can use this feature to filter out Mail, Newsgroups, or both by checking the circle next to the corresponding category.
  5. To add more addresses to this list, repeat steps 2 - 4 listed above.
  6. Click OK when you are finished.
